Wolves struggle on home ice

The Wolves took a walloping on home ice on the weekend, marking 16 goals against in two games.

The contest was tight after the first period, with the teams entering the first intermission tied 1 1. However, the Greyhounds capitalized on their chances in the second period and scored five goals to take a 6 2 lead into the third period.

The Wolves came out with more life in the third period and scored three early goals to get within one goal, trailing 6 5. The Greyhounds opened a two goal lead on a power play opportunity midway through the period and added an empty netter to win the game by a final score of 8 5.

Sudbury goals were scored by John Kurtz, John McFarland, Eric O’Dell, Jared Staal and Marcus Foligno. Alain Valiquette started the game in net for the team, but was relieved midway through the second period by Andrew Loverock.

On Saturday night, the Wolves took the ice in pink jerseys in support of the Janis Foligno Foundation, to raise funds for breast cancer research. Cheap Jerseys from china Although the team marked its second loss in as many days, the community walked away the big winners of the evening.

Taking on the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, who the Wolves have not beaten yet this season, the Wolves jumped out to an early 2 0 lead and seemed to be taking the fans on the type of night they had hoped for during this fundraising event, a press release stated.

The Majors had other ideas though, as they tied the contest before the end of the first frame, and jumped out to the 4 2 lead before the start of the third period. The Majors added four more goals on their way to an 8 3 win over the Wolves. Scoring for the Wolves was Staal, O’Dell and rookie Justin Sefton, with his first OHL career goal.

Even though the Wolves could not provide a win on the ice, the sea of pink was noticeable throughout the evening through the crowd of more than 4,400 fans. All of the players’ pink jerseys were sold via auction in support of the Janis Foligno Foundation with the proceeds being dedicated to the Sudbury Regional Hospital Foundation Capital Equipment fund.
